Astaxanthin is a deep-red carotenoid antioxidant produced by the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis — it’s what gives salmon and flamingos their pink-red colour. Gram for gram it’s one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature.
Most antioxidants protect only one part of a cell — vitamin C the watery inside, vitamin E the fatty membrane. Astaxanthin’s unique structure spans the entire membrane and protects both at once, and it’s one of the few that crosses the blood–retinal and blood–brain barriers to reach the eyes and brain.
Antioxidant activity begins within days. Most people notice less eye fatigue and quicker recovery in about 2 weeks, with visible skin benefits — smoothness, tone and elasticity — building from 4 to 8 weeks of daily use.
